The Fast Track to Write Blogs for Money – Part 6The Fast Track to Write Blogs for Money – Part 6

So my Fast Trac entrepreneurial course is keeping me on my toes as I learn the fast track to write blogs for money. Today’s topic is “Reaching the Market”, which is great because I love marketing and promotion.

By the way, when Course Leader Larry mentioned that he hadn’t found a social media speaker yet for next Friday’s class, I volunteered. I was concerned that it might be a conflict of interest since I was in the class, but he said it was fine. Yay!

While his social media person has now set up a date to visit our class and present general social media strategy, I’m quite excited about the presentation that I’ll be giving. For one thing, I’ll be able to suggest customized online marketing and digital product ideas for each one of my classmates.

So that’s my differential advantage right there! 🙂

Writing a Blog for Money

Writing a blog for money requires that you reach your target market by optimizing your blog posts for both human eyes AND search engine crawler bots.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, people are searching for information in Google and other search engines. By creating valuable content that is also optimized for discovery, you will have the power to direct web traffic.

    • Generally attractive, with legible font
    • Text layout is easy to read
    • Contain attractive graphics
  • Blog posts are created to be found by search engines
    • Based on actual keyword searches
    • Contain keywords
    • Formulated to rank highly in search engines (based on specific criteria)
    • Authority websites backlinking to the post

Blogging for Money Online

When you’re blogging for money online, your main job is to drive web traffic. The quality of your writing and images are important because the goal of your blog post is to persuade a reader to click the link that you want them to.

Most lifestyle bloggers blog for the love of it. The ones doing it for the money drive web traffic to websites such Amazon, Clickbank, Etsy, Home Depot, Guitar Center, and many more. These online retailers reward YOU for sending traffic to them, so your job as a blogger is to DRIVE TRAFFIC.

The main two kinds of web traffic is ORGANIC (Free) and PAID (Not Free). Most online marketers start with organic traffic, and many hobby and mommy bloggers prefer to focus on organic traffic.

Organic Traffic (Free)

  • Search Engines
  • Social Media
    • Blogging
    • Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc)
    • Audio & Video Content

Starting a Blog for Money

If you’re a product creator starting a blog for money, or if you’re in my entrepreneurial class with Course Leader Larry with the assignment to make $100,000 in Year 3, organic traffic might seem a little slow. The downside of organic traffic is that that there is a ramp-up time in the beginning. The upside of organic traffic is that it’s free, and optimized posts last longer in search engine results. Until your organic traffic builds momentum, you don’t know when someone will visit your website, or what they will purchase.

I always say that you shouldn’t quit your job to pursue internet marketing until you can replace your salary. And when I crunched my business numbers using only organic traffic, I discovered that, even with my own product, I might not break even before Month 11. And at that rate, it’s also unlikely that I would be making $100,000 by Year 3. So to create more revenue sooner, I could consider stepping things up with online advertising.

If you budget for online advertising, you can increase your sales on a quicker timeline. Here are the two most popular forms of paid traffic:

Paid Traffic

  • Pay-Per-Click (PPC) on Google
  • Facebook Ads

Google’s Pay-Per-Click advertising model enables you to advertise your product by keyword on the keyword’s search engine page. You are buying exposure, and only charged when the reader clicks on your advertisement.

Facebook Ads are also Pay-Per-Click, but Facebook enables you to target the ad’s viewers by whatever parameters you choose, including country, city, age, Likes, etc.

If you are blogging for money from home in order to promote your own product, you can also make more offers. If you have an email list, you can contact current and prospective customers when you have something new to say, or to sell. You can also create an online forum (on WordPress, Facebook, etc) and promote products to customers there. Your networks will also come in handy, as you may want to do a joint venture with other bloggers. Not to mention that your network may also include bloggers who want to be your affiliates and promote your book. By creating your own community via email or online forums, you can market your products directly to prospective customers .

How to Write Blogs for Money – BONUS!

After “completing” the recap for this how to write blogs for money article last night, I woke up at 4:44am this morning, hot with the idea on how to structure my social media presentation for my Fast Trac classmates. I wrote a 5-page long outline, making sure that I had suggestions for everyone’s business, and I was very excited about it. My main concern, as it usually is, is packing in lots of juicy info in my presentation without running out of time!

And then it hit me. I have speaking, teaching and consulting experience that can also bring in revenue.

Because I have been so adamant about having an online business that has nothing to do with being someone’s Life Coach, I forgot about similar streams of income that I’ve created in the past for music marketing that I do enjoy.

I’m a “people person” who enjoys helping people and talking with them face-to-face, which is one of my strengths. Even though I’m not interested in having long term coaching clients, I love brainstorming ideas with people, and teaching them easy ways to introduce social media to their businesses. So while I’m experienced as a speaker, teacher, and consultant in the music business, these skills can be easily replicated in ANY niche.

So as I came up with ideas for my classmates, I accidentally came up with more revenue streams for myself!:

Speaking, Teaching, Coaching, and Consulting Revenue

  • Sell online courses and/or webinars for small business owners
  • Offer “Straddle” workshops in NYC for small business owners
  • Offer Tutoring and Consulting services for small business owners
  • Coaching Packages

Hmm, so my strategy to make $100,000 in Year 3 as a blogger is coming together!!!
